Watch: Rahul Gandhi's 'Yuva' Slip-Up In Lok Sabha Leaves Union Ministers In Splits

Rahul Gandhi's Lok Sabha speech left the audience in splits when he called a 6-7-year-old a "Yuva" (youth) while narrating the story of Eklavya. He corrected himself and continued, comparing today's youth to Eklavya, whose thumb was cut off.

New Delhi: Congress leader and leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi left several ministers in splits today after he called a seven-year-old kid a "Yuva". The LoP, in a fiery speech on the Constitution, was giving a reference of Eklavya from the Hindu epic Mahabharata, when he made that gaffe.

"Thousands of years ago in a dense forest, a 'yuva' (youth). a 'yuva' of 6-7 years of age. " Rahul Gandhi said while narrating the story of Dronacharya and Eklavya.

The use of the word "Yuva" triggered instant laughter from BJP ministers, including Union Ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw and Kirren Rijiju. The Congress leader instantly corrected his mistake and continued his speech further.

Continuing his statement, the Gandhi scion compared the plight of today's youth to Eklavya, who was asked to cut off his thumb. He further said that the government is metaphorically cutting the thumbs of young aspirants who dedicate themselves to exam preparation, only to face the disappointment of paper leaks.

".The manner in which Dronacharya cut off the thumb of Eklavya, you are busy cutting off the thumb of the entire nation. When you handover Dharavi to Adani, you cut off the thumb of entrepreneurs, small and medium businesses. When you handover India's ports, airports and defence industry to Adani, you cut off the thumbs of all fair play business of India who work honestly," Rahul Gandhi said.

The Congress leader took the attack to the BJP citing VD Savarkar. He shared before the House what Savarkar had said about the Constitution, saying Hindutva ideologue "did not find anything" Indian about India's Constitution.
