Congress Accuses BJP-RSS of Deep-Rooted Disdain for Ambedkar and the Constitution, Demands Apology

NEW DELHI: Congress demanded Amit Shah, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the Bharatiya Janata Party to apologize to the nation, and the Union home minister to resign from his position for insulting BR Ambedkar andf the Constitution.

In a post on X, Congress listed out a series of events, stating that insulting the architect of the Constitution BR Ambedkar is in the DNA of BJP and Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh (RSS).

The Congress claimed that in 1949, when the Hindu Code Bill was being prepared, the RSS burned effigies of Dr Ambedkar at Delhi's Ram Leela Maidan. It also alleged that the 'Organiser' magazine compared Dr Ambedkar to "Lilliput.".
These remarks came after Union home minister Amit Shah addressed the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday where he accused the Congress of being anti-reservation and said it never worked for the benefit of the backward classes.

"In the November 30, 1949 issue of Organiser, it had been written: 'The worst thing about India's new Constitution is that it has nothing Indian in it. The Constitution makers have included elements from British, American, Canadian, Swiss, and several other constitutions. The laws in the Manusmriti are still admired all over the world today for promoting obedience and conformity, but our constitutional scholars don't understand their significance', the party posted on X.

"On January 11, 1950, Organizer magazine insulted Dr Ambedkar by comparing him to 'Lilliput.' The article said that Dr Ambedkar couldn't be called the modern Manu, as it was like 'depicting Lilliput as Brobdingnag. It is absurd to compare Dr Ambedkar to a scholarly and god-like Manu…' it added.".

He also remembered an incident of the year 1966. When RSS's second leader M.S. Golwalkar expressed his views on the constitution he said that "cumbersome and discordant combination of articles taken from diverse western countries constitutions", this is what the constitutional formation is.

Congress quoted Golwalkar saying that the Congress is merely a mix of weak principles from the UN Charter, the erstwhile League of Nations Charter, and certain features from the American and British Constitutions. In other words, there is no trace of Indian principles or political philosophy in our Constitution.

Congress enumerated 1993, 2000 and 2023 incident saying that on these dates the RSS hurt BR Ambedkar. The oldest party also claimed that BJP MPs and leaders began speaking about amending the Constitution before the 2024 general elections. They also referred to Amit Shah's speech yesterday where he listened as saying, "Nowadays, it's become a trend – Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar. If only people took God's name this much, they would go to heaven."

"The DNA of the BJP-RSS is steeped in hatred and contempt for Babasaheb and the Constitution he gave us.

They have no desire for Dalits and the oppressed to enjoy respect, equality, or rights in the country. That is why they've been consistently insulting Babasaheb," the party claimed.
