Rahul Gandhi in parbhani After MP Rahul Gandhi met the family members of late Somnath Suryavanshi, Somnath Suryavanshi's mother Vatsalabai Suryavanshi has given her reaction.
Parbhan (Maharashtra) : Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, visited the family of the late Soamanath Suryavanshi today in Parbhani. Soamanath was one of the individuals arrested by the police after the protests in Parbhani, and his death in judicial custody has caused anger within the Dalit community. This incident also made its way to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, while responding in the assembly, claimed that Soamanath Suryavanshi had told judges that no assault had taken place.
However, following his visit, Rahul Gandhi directly targeted Fadnavis, accusing him of lying. He stated, “I met the Suryavanshi family and those who were assaulted. They showed me the post-mortem reports and videos. From these, it is clear this is a case of judicial murder; the police killed him.” Gandhi claimed that Fadnavis had lied to the assembly to protect the police. He further added that Soamanath, a Dalit, was killed while defending the Constitution, and those responsible must be punished. Gandhi also stated that he is not satisfied with the actions taken so far and emphasized that this is not political but a matter of responsible ideology.
Rahul Gandhi also slammed Fadnavis for claiming that Soamanath Suryavanshi died due to asthma. Gandhi accused the Chief Minister of misleading the assembly and announced that Congress would bring a privilege motion against him. Nana Patole, Congress leader, also declared that the party would move a motion in the assembly for breach of privilege against Fadnavis.
In response, Fadnavis announced that a committee of retired judges would be formed to investigate the incident. According to Fadnavis, the post-mortem report suggested that Soamanath suffered from a respiratory illness, and older wounds were found on his body. Fadnavis explained that Soamanath was transferred to a medical center from police custody, where he later died.
Nana Patole emphasized that Congress would continue to raise these issues democratically, focusing on how the marginalized communities, including backward classes, Buddhists, and minorities, were being targeted by the BJP. He assured that Congress would expose the government's wrongdoings in Parliament and across the state.
