'Rohit Sharma doesn't want to get out there and bat': Glenn McGrath on India's decision to bowl first at the Gabba 'Rohit Sharma doesn't want to get out there and bat': Glenn McGrath on India's decision to bowl first at the Gabba

NEW DELHI: Aussie great pace Glenn McGrath comments on the toss at Gabba by India captain Rohit Sharma today. The Australian ex pacer expressed not in shock on Rohit's choice
"Not surprised to see that Rohit batted after winning the toss. Don't want him out there batting."
McGrath while talking to ABC radio further elaborated on the impact of the decision, especially considering public opinion. He identified the disparity in how a failed batting versus a failed bowling strategy is perceived by the media.
The thing is if you bowl first and it goes pear shaped that looks really bad in the media whereas if you bat first and it goes poorly it is 'gutsy decision to bat first
Rohit Sharma's choice was therefore a tactical affair, that violated the usual approach on the Gabba. The general approach Ricky Ponting laid on the ICC review discussion a few months back had established on the Brisbane Cricket Ground.

"That generally means the side that wins the toss at Brisbane will bat first, attempt to build a huge total in the first two days of play and then sit back and wait for the wicket to deteriorate so the bowlers get assistance from the later stages. This is the way most teams have played at the place generally",
The Gabba has been the bastion for Australia throughout the ages.

The team has an impressive 31-match unbeaten run at the venue, from 1989 to 2020.

Ponting was still hopeful that Australia would win despite the recent losses against India and the West Indies at the Gabba.

Rain played a spoilsport on the opening day as only 13.2 overs of play was possible.

Australia were 28 without loss after continuous rain forced the umpires to call off the day's proceedings early.

The five-test series is level at 1-1. Australia won the second match in Adelaide, while India won the first match in Perth.
