UP: Bulldozer action against 180-year-old Noori Jama Masjid in Fatehpur over encroachment
A major portion of the 180-year-old Noori Jama Masjid in Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh was bulldozed on Tuesday after the district administration issued a notice. The mosque is located in Lalauli town on Banda Sagar Road, and the demolition was carried out after the mosque committee failed to remove the encroachment even after two notices were issued in connection with the same, an official said.
The part that was demolished was built in the last three years to extend the mosque over the Banda Bahraich road, obstructing the proposed widening of the road.
The damaged section was constructed in the past three years to extend the mosque across the Banda-Bahraich road, which is State Highway 13. The expansion of the highway has been hindered by the mosque. A month back, the PWD department had issued a notice for its demolition.
