Nagpur (Maharashtra) : After several years of being out of power, former ministers have been given another opportunity by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, marking their return to the cabinet. This includes Pankaja Munde,Ganesh Naik, Sanjay Sawkare, Jaykumar Rawal, Ashok Uike, and Ashish Shelar. On the other hand, key figures such as Chhagan Bhujbal, Dilip Walse-Patil, Sudhir Mungantiwar, Ravindra Chavan, Vijaykumar Gavit, Tanaji Sawant, and Abdul Sattar have been excluded. Chief Minister Fadnavis clarified that the allocation of portfolios will happen in two days. The oath ceremony took place on Sunday at the Raj Bhavan grounds in the twilight, with a large number of ministers’ relatives, supporters, and key figures present. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari was also notably present. The first oath was taken by BJP State President Chandrashekhar Bawankule.

Re-entry of Former Ministers into the Cabinet:

The new cabinet saw the return of several former ministers. Ganesh Naik, who served as a minister for ten consecutive years from 2004 to 2014, held important portfolios such as state excise, labor, forest, and environment. After his defeat in the 2014 assembly elections, Naik was out of power, and despite winning a seat in 2019, he was not given a cabinet position at that time. Pankaja Munde, who was defeated in the 2019 elections, was recently inducted into the Legislative Council by BJP in July. Sanjay Sawkare, a former state minister under the Prithviraj Chavan government, joined BJP in 2014 and has now been given a cabinet position after ten years. Ashish Shelar, Ashok Uike, and Jaykumar Rawal, who had been inducted into the cabinet by then Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis before the 2019 elections, have now received cabinet positions five years later.

Ajit Pawar’s Exclusion of Five Former Ministers:

Ajit Pawar has excluded five of his former ministers from the cabinet, including Chhagan Bhujbal, Dilip Walse-Patil, Dharmarav Baba Atram, Anil Bhidas Patil, and Sanjay Bansode. Bhujbal and Walse-Patil were in the cabinet whenever the NCP was in power. However, for the first time, they have had to remain outside the cabinet after their party did not form the government. BJP has excluded Sudhir Mungantiwar, Ravindra Chavan, Vijaykumar Gavit, and Suresh Khade from ministerial positions. Some of these individuals may be given responsibility in BJP’s organizational work. The Shiv Sena has also excluded Tanaji Sawant, Deepak Kesarkar, and Abdul Sattar from the cabinet.

Noteworthy Moments at the Oath Ceremony:

The scheduled time for the oath-taking ceremony was 4 p.m., but it began 40 minutes late. As the national flag was lowered at sunset, the ceremony was temporarily paused. The exclusion of former ministers Ravindra Chavan, Tanaji Sawant, and Deepak Kesarkar, which Maharashtra Times had first reported, was confirmed as true during the ceremony.

Except for BJP's Manglaprabhath Lodha, all ministers took the oath in Marathi. Lodha took his oath in Sanskrit, while NCP’s Hasan Mushrif took his oath in the name of Allah.

When Pankaja Munde took her oath, the workers present cheered the name of her father, Gopinath Munde. Ashish Jayswal, who took his oath while honoring the land of Shri Ramtek, also expressed his reverence. There was a festive atmosphere when Shiv Sena’s Bharat Gogawale took the oath, as he paid tribute to Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray and Anand Dighe.
