Maharashtra Cabinet Expansion: Ministers to Undergo 'Performance Audit' in 2.5 Years, Announces Fadnavis
Maharashtra Cabinet Expansion Live Updates: The week-long winter session of the state legislature, following the oath-taking ceremony in Nagpur, will begin on Monday.
Maharashtra Cabinet Expansion Live: After the cabinet expansion on Sunday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis declared that the term of the ministers who were inducted would be two-and-half years, and later, senior leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party will perform a "performance audit of every minister". "Where it is found that the minister is not working according to expectation, then there will be a change," he said during the press conference. Many in the ruling alliance feel that this will not only correct accountability and put pressure on the ministers to perform, considering the huge mandate for Mahayuti in the Assembly polls, a mid-term change also gives hope to others who could not make the cut this time around.
Fadnavis further announced that the portfolios of the newly inducted ministers will be allotted within two days. The portfolio distribution is going to be heavily negotiated, considering the background that several key ministers from the previous Mahayuti government have been dropped from Sunday's cabinet expansion, according to The Indian Express.
As many as 33 cabinet ministers and 6 ministers of state were administered the oath in Maharashtra as the state expanded its cabinet on Sunday. Of the 33 cabinet ministers sworn in at Raj Bhavan in Nagpur, 16 were from the Bharatiya Janata Party, 9 from the Shiv Sena, and 8 from the Nationalist Congress Party. Also sworn in as Ministers of State are six — three each from BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP. The weeklong winter session of the state legislature will begin on Monday, after the oath taking in Nagpur.
