A new campaign has been launched in Delhi to identify and detain illegal Bangladeshi migrants. As part of this effort, the police conducted a 12-hour verification drive on Saturday, during which 175 suspected individuals were identified.
The Delhi Police initiated the campaign to target Bangladeshi nationals residing in the city without valid documentation. The police carried out the verification drive from 6 PM on Saturday evening in the outer regions of Delhi, identifying these 175 people as potential illegal Bangladeshi migrants.
Delhi Police's Statement: A police official shared details about the campaign, stating, "We have intensified our efforts to identify individuals living without valid documents and take them into custody. During the extensive verification drive in outer Delhi, 175 individuals were identified as suspected illegal Bangladeshi migrants."
Action Taken Under LG's Orders: The campaign began on December 11 to identify illegal Bangladeshi migrants in the capital, following an order from the office of Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena, who had directed action against illegal migrants the day before, on December 10. Since then, the police have intensified efforts to apprehend illegal Bangladeshi migrants.
Ongoing Efforts in the Campaign: The Delhi Police expressed concern over the rising number of undocumented migrants. The outer district police have initiated actions in various local areas under their jurisdiction. According to police sources, special teams consisting of local station officers, district foreign cell personnel, and special units have been directed to conduct door-to-door checks and gather intelligence on suspected illegal migrants.(INPUT NEWS AGENCY)
